It has just been announced that the best mom in Tennessee is Olivia Harris. Researchers went to each of the 50 states to look for the best mom. In Tennessee, it is Olivia. She has three children, ages 8, 5 and 2. Her two oldest children attend school in Jefferson County.

Qualifications for this nomination were determined by talking with the candidate’s children, their teachers, and other community members. Olivia’s oldest son, Justin, said “I know my mom is the best mom in Tennessee. She helps me do well in school, but she makes it fun, too. She’s always there to do stuff with me when I need it.”

The principal at one local Jefferson County school discussed the importance of the nomination, “Not just anyone could be named the best mom in Tennessee. We are very proud that the nomination was someone from our local community.”

In addition to staying involved in her children’s academics and other school functions, Olivia holds two jobs and has multiple affiliations within Jefferson County. The judging process for the award began in early February and was presented on May 10, 2009 at a special Mother’s Day ceremony. Olivia’s nomination came with a personalized plaque, a $100 gift certificate to a local grocery store,  and charitable donations to both the county government and the school.

{May 19, 2009}   LOST

Every few months, the national TV audience is overwhelmed with a barrage of new series that someone hopes will turn  into the next Simpsons or American Idol. When the series Lost came out, I was less than enthusiastic about it’s potential. To be perfectly honest, I still have not watched an entire episode since the show came on air. However, I am becoming more intrigued and may actually take the time to watch it. In the past week, I have overheard 3 different people in 3 separate situations raving about this show. I am definitely interested in others’ opinions…what makes this show so great? Is it worth the hour of my time every week to join the masses of dedicated Lost viewers? Please let me know what you think…maybe I’ll watch it.
